I think what's the most frightening is how he manages to convince the settlers to follow him to nearly wipe out Powhatan's tribe, mostly via playing on their loyalty to John Smith. At least in "The Mob Song", one could accept that the townspeople were morons (although that...doesn't really make it any better), but in POCAHONTAS, the settlers were actually genuinely good people, just horribly misinformed -- and they mostly wanted to go rescue Smith because, honestly? Smith would have done the same for them. Ratcliffe, on the other hand, mostly saw a golden opportunity (no pun intended. :P) to get stinking rich (never mind there wasn't any gold in Virginia to begin with), so... Sighs Call me crazy, but there's something about the way he uses the settlers' loyalty to Smith against them as well as Powhatan's tribe (in a way), all to get what he wants, that's frightening. It's really Ratcliffe's Not So Harmless moment, IMHO. And hotels resembling the castles in the DP films would be awesome. :) posted 一年多以前.
