I’m hoping that we’ll get to know more about Aurora in the sequel because tbh I forget she was actually in Maleficent. I know that’s pretty harsh but Maleficent is one of my least favorite movies in general so I’ve only watched it 3 times altogether.

Compared to the original it’s hard to truly see Ella as a prisoner since we see her out and about more than once and she has human friends who are aware of her situation and even ask her why she stays there. The way she and her friends talk about it don’t even sound like she’s going through abuse or is a prisoner, out of context they sound like Ella’s just dealing with annoying room mates

Belle being an inventor is an interesting change for the remake but we only see her invent a washing machine and don’t see her invent or build anything else. We could have seen her build something and Beast could have watched her with fascination and ask questions, similar to how in the original Belle read to Beast and he asked her to read to him again. We do see her help her father by handing him whatever tool he needed when he was working on something but that’s like me assisting my husband in the kitchen suddenly makes me one of the greatest chefs like Gordon Ramsey and Alton Brown. This could have been just left out or had a little more to it.

I’m all for changes in a remake but animated Jasmine was a feminist icon for children everywhere, she took no bs from anyone and called people out immediately. I liked remake Jasmine and I liked that she wasn’t as aggressive as original Jasmine was and while it is interesting to see a princess slowly gain courage to stand up for herself, why do it to a princess who was originally the exact opposite? Why not use that idea for a new princess in a new story?

I wish we saw more of Belle inventing. It would have been better than just throwing in that she can invent things and not using it the rest of the movie like they did.

This bugs me, among the things I disliked about this remake.

As for the rest, I didn't like these same issues.

I didn't mind that we got to see more of Ella's mother in the remake, as we saw zilch of her in the original.

This one ! I think the fact that cinderella grew up with her stepfamily help understand why she never leave them and how she is a prisoner in her own home.

DEFINITELY THIS! This would've made SO MUCH MORE sense. That's one of the few things that I think the original Cinderella did better than the remake.

I feel like while Aurora wasn't written with much character to her, though the original Aurora didn't have anything to her either, Elle Fanning actually tried to add some personality to the role, which I think she did fairly well. She's not a three-dimensional character but at least Elle managed to help some. While her performance was great, I still think Elle was miscast for the role because of how she's not a great beauty (She's given the gift of beauty and is called Sleeping BEAUTY for crying out loud). But yeah, it would've helped if the writings and directors helped with her character and not just have Elle do all the work.

I do agree they could've done a better job establishing Belle being an inventor but I do love that she's the inventor because it adds to how she's considered odd and doesn't fit in.

I don't feel Jasmine was really passive in the remake. I mean, she would stand up for herself but would end up backing down because of how she was brought up. I like this new interpretation of her character. She still captures the spirit of the character while still adding something new.

Aurora is freaking bland in Maleficent. In the original she’s kind, shy, loves singing and dancing, talks to animals, she’s smart, she’s never really had any Human Friends, she knows how to get things done, etc. In Maleficent she’s curious, I guess.
