Sure, Jasmine isn't bad role model. She isn't Blair Waldorf. Jasmine has admirable qualities but to me she is a worse role model than the rest. I prefer more soft-spoken and mild-tempered heroines.

Predictable, any princess that's not endlessly charming and patient is gonna get voted out. Aka, the more perfect they are, and unrealistic, the higher they'll make it in this countdown

@princesslullaby, being soft-spoken and mild-tempered isn't unrealistic. I know such people and I admire them. I know people like Rapunzel, Belle, Snow White and Pocahontas. I think that they are better people than me. For example, one of my ex-university fellows is compassionate, philantropical, charitable, protective, polite, open-minded( one of few people who never considered me a freak, while even my loving elders did), optimistic( despite having much more troubled past than I had) and forgiving. And also very hard-working, well-read and a brilliant student. She is definetely more similiar to Rapunzel and Pocahontas than to Merida and Jasmine but she is the real person.
Sure, being close to perfection makes you a good role model. For example, I think that my ex-university fellow gave a lot important lessons. She is by far better role model than me and so do DPs she resembles(IMO).

I like Ariel and I do think that the movie as a whole does well to conveys an important message to the audience, but in order to do so, Ariel needs to make some really huge mistakes...she is less a role model and more a cautionary tale....

I feel like a role model is someone who makes mistakes and grows from them, not someone who is princessly perfect in the first place.

Ariel put herself in a very dangerous situation she made mistakes and Even if she is one of my favorite i think she is not a good role model

I dont understand how aurora is not a good role model ? I think Follow your family instead of running away is a good thing and she is mature and responsable

I like Aurora. Why picking someone who is rude is a overly high standarts, while picking someone who is passive isn't? Passiveness and lack of self-reliance are flaws too but such flaws annoy me less than rudeness and short temperor.

Belle
wavesurf picked Belle:
Snideness, rudeness, no tactfulness, no respect for other people's privacy, betraying the prince she says she loves, and her continual putting on of "airs" just like Jo from Louisa May Alcott's Little Women.

At this point. I'll be voting for her, forever. But with 6 flaws that most people write-off as not even existing in Belle--- this makes me dislike Belle all the more.

I told Adelital that I don't consider any of the princesses role model material. Not any of them!!!! This countdown will go like the following:

11. Merida
10. Ariel
9. Jasmine
8. Snow White
7. Aurora
6. Cinderella
5. Mulan
4. Tiana
3. Rapunzel
2.Pocahontas
1. Belle

So, technically, there isn't ANY point in me participating anymore. All of my favorite princesses, and even the classics, will be at the bottom.

All this countdown will achieve is creating a huge row of "perfect against imperfect."

I don't need this. GOOD-BYE.

Same as before. Irresponsible girl who had a pretty good life but constantly thrown it away for a random guy she's hardly know. Untrusting her family and friends but trust an evil one instead. She made a lot of mistakes so it's hard to tell she's a good role model.

^ This isn't about Mulan's popularity. You're trying to make it about that, but it ISN'T. This kind of countdown SPLITS this club apart and causes FIGHTS.

So, Mulan won similar countdowns before. Big deal. I wasn't involved in any of the "role model countdowns" for a reason! They are sickening, and users behave abominably-- just so their favorite doesn't leave.

I wish you would drop this countdown. I really do.

I'm unsure about this countdown. I find it completely subjective as it's relative to each individual. Everyone admires different traits & has different aspirations in life therefore what they'd view as a role model others would not. Also people may be subconsciously biased against their favs/least favs.

For example I know Jasmine will be voted out early, but to me she is a huge role model as I find her outspokenness, ability to stand up for herself while still remaining a good person admirable as mostly I'm too shy/anxious to do so, but to others she wouldn't be viewed as a role model as she's not polite enough. I don't find Ariel a good role model for myself as I believe she doesn't learn from her mistakes and find the Ursula deal haphazard, but I fully understand why others would find her a good role model as she's determined in the pursuit of her dreams. It's just all unique to each individual's experience, what they admire in someone and how they believe a person should act, so there's no right or wrong answer, and I find it very hard to pick an option because who am I to say who is or isn't a good role model when others will look up to that character for the same reasons?

Completely agree with mongoose09.

Adelital, I voted for Aurora because she is not inspiring to me at all. She didn't do anything, and is too passive

I vote for Ariel because as a chronic over thinker who self defeats often, in find Ariel's faith and courage inspiring.

But I won't participate either. It's too subjective. This countdown is more like "which princess makes. the most mistakes and has the most flaws" Rather than "who is the best role model" And the two are not opposites

^ well, yes, pretty much every poll is subjective, but they're subjective in different ways.

It's nigh impossible to vote for anyone because all the DPs have at least some admirable qualities that others might look up to. I can't possibly say who's better or who's worse - just because I don't personally find a certain Princess a good role model, it doesn't mean she isn't a good role model. It's not for me to say. It's all relative. Also it'll more likely create petty arguments than it will intelligent debate. I'm not saying Adelital shouldn't continue with it, just that I don't really agree with the idea.

@Swanpride: I agree with Mongoose and Princesslullaby. Adelital has set up this countdown to place Mary Sue princesses at the top and everybody else who makes any errors--- at the bottom.

Normal polls are subjective, sure. But they aren't skewed towards a single user's opinion.

There aren't any Mary Sue princesses, and frankly, considering that nowadays the term is mostly used for insulting female characters instead of a feature in a meaningful discussion, I don't think that it has any place in conversations in a club which is about cheering on female leads.

How my opinion influences on this poll results more than other users'? I started the new round only after the first one was closed. I didn't create fake accounts to make sure that my opinion wins. When I said princesslullaby that Aurora is a good role model to me( and, yes, she DOES inspire me), I didn't have any intention to change princesslullaby's mind, just wanted to say that critising Jasmine is no worse than critising Aurora. I have no problems accepting other's people opinion. Yes, noticed disnerdtobe's comment but I didn't argue with her, despite her picking one of my most beloved DPs( and she did it rightfully) and me disagreeing with her, because she didn't attack me in any way. Also I've never attacked none of those who ever said that Ratcliffe is a lame villain, Pocahontas and/or PAFT is a boring movie etc. I just get angry that my opinion is offensive or something else.
And this countdown doesn't necessairly cause fights. The first round was entirely peaceful. There are enough people who are capable of peaceful and civilised disagreement.

Swanpride, thanks for defension.

@Swanpride: You told me that it was possible to grow out of Ariel, right? But I didn't. So what you're saying is that Ariel's is a cautionary tale...while other princesses, including Belle learn more when they do less.

I have to wince at that kind of logic. As for using the term Mary Sue, it fits. Because if you are going to go around saying Ariel is a cautionary tale, and she isn't a role model, then I feel free to say that Rapunzel, Belle, Tiana, and Pocahontas are pretty much bland...Mary Sues...who don't learn anything, because they don't have to learn anything. They already know everything. So what can they possibly learn? Not much. And the movies in which they appear demonstrate that they stay static characters.

@Adelital: I am just about finished with your snarky retorts. Your countdown is skewed. It doesn't have an objective opinion. The best thing about the official DP lineup is that princesses you don't like are actually in it, and you can't talk to me about removing them ( i.e., Jasmine for instance). I didn't like how you went after BB2010's article. I didn't like your retort when I said that I loved Ariel's wardrobe. You went on the attack mode, and gave me all of that "overrated nonsense." And then you started attacking Mulan, too, these last couple of days---for good measure, just so that you could continue to be annoying and try to get under my skin.

I'm not reading the results of your countdown, because, like I said--- it will consist of Rapunzel, Belle, Tiana, and Pocahontas at the top. You just should have written another article on your favorites instead of starting another nasty fight.

@Everyone else: I've reported this countdown. I'm tired of dealing with those who attempt to take a cohesive club and swing it in the opposite direction. I don't and won't stand for people who attempt to write off the princesses that make "huge mistakes," while uplifting and praising static characters who make hardly any. That's pissy. It's derogatory, and I won't be flim-flammed by users "pretending" to judge "morality of character," when all they really are doing is getting a chance to dump on other users who don't share their views.

Swanpride picked Ariel:
@Wavesurf The question is NOT which Disney Princess movies sends the best message (though I guess this could be an interesting topic for another countdown), the question is which character works the best as an role model in itself.

And, above all, I think that your attitude is very off-putting. It is okay to not participate in a countdown...I for example didn't participate in the "who is the most evil" countdown because I don't think that you can really measure evilness. But I didn't stick around and tell other people that what they are doing is stupid. I have no idea what your issue with Adelital is other than a difference of opinion about who is the greatest princess. So what? Why is it so important for you that everyone agrees with you? I mean, it is okay to express disappointment if you feel that your fav is underappreciated in general, but not to attack other members just because they happen to not agree with you.

^Your reasoning was not expressed in a fair way. You decided to exercise your judgment, but don't want to get the blowback that your judgement created. This was simple. Your role models are more popular, have considerably more of a fan base, and so-- will be at the top of the list. How fair is a countdown when princesses who are less popular don't ever measure up?

I stand by reporting this countdown and ANY future role model countdowns which yield lopsided results.

I suppose I should thank you for allowing me to see how dead set you are on making me "the problem" as you support another user's attempts to drive a huge wedge among members of the club.

^Where did "staunch defender of Ariel" come from? You didn't say anything positive when Ariel won the wardrobe countdown? I seem to see you coming to Rapunzel's defense more often.

Instead of splitting hairs, and going into who-supports-Ariel-and-who-doesn't, maybe we can, um, you know ---GET RID of a countdown whose sole function is to criticize those princesses who make the most mistakes? Because, unfortunately, not everybody sees mistakes as horrible-- gasp-- and not everyone thinks so highly of people who "claim not to make any mistakes."

https://swanpride.wordpress.com/2015/12/19/honoring-the-heroine-ariel/

I also have to point out that The Little Mermaid made it into the top ten of the best Animated movies of the 20th century article series.

And, btw, I actually intend to vote for Snow White next because I feel that she sets an impossible standard of goodness. This is NOT about who makes the least mistakes. This is about whose motives and ways to reach their goals set a better example.

^Wow. You have made the leap from criticizing princesses' mistakes to "whose motives are better" and "whose method of reaching their goals/dreams is better?"

No wonder that I disagree with you. That's more than standard criticism. That's ideology. You are flat out stating that not only did these princesses make mistakes--- but their motives were wrong, and the manner in which they attempted to resolve their conflict was wrong. Wow. Just wow.

Okay. I will just DISAGREE, because this just isn't anything like a normal countdown about the princesses at all. And I will definitely continue reporting how divisive this is to the Fanpop mods.
