I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be their first gay character and I don't mind having 2 gay princes at all whatsoever but I definitely am upset that they are doing it at the expense of Walt's original 3's happy endings. I don't think they should take away the happy ending for ANY of the DPs. And anyways, why doesn't the first gay prince get his own movie and story?!

I mean they aren't actually taking it away; it's not like they're erasing all evidence of the original stories. As far as I know this is just another neat new take on it. It changes Disney's version no more than Once Upon A Time does.

They are taking it away because right now, there are 3 DPs with 3 of their own PCs. If they're all married to the same one gay man then how is that not taking away the "Happily Ever After" from the 3 DPs? I don't think polygamy is neat, sorry. I think this is disrespectful to Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora and Walt Disney fans.

Once Upon A Time is totally different because it's a partner of Disney but is meant to be separate. The "Charming" film is as much of the Disney universe as the original 3 films.

Where its stated that they are married? imbd and the link says that they are engaged but not married, and also where its written that the prince will be gay? I didnt find information about it. Personally i dont mind and would find it great and interesting to have a gay caracter in a disney movie.
I dont think that this will impact on the original three DP movies.

My mistake, engaged to be married. I read rumors that he's supposed to be gay and that his true love is another prince charming. Very pointless to do this plot if he's not gay though, in my opinion. This has absolutely nothing to do with being ok or not with A gay character. I already said I have no problem with that. I just don't understand why it has to be at the original 3 DP's expenses. And I know it's not impacting the original films as they've already been out for 78-56 years but it's distorting it for all newer and younger audiences.

What is the problem with giving him his OWN story and plot?

its written that the love interest will be the character voiced by Demi Lovato named Lenore, and its look like to be a Dreamworks movie (from the producer of Shrek) not Disney, but iam not sure. Dreamworks in some of their movies likes to parody disney, i wouldn't take it seriously.

As far as I can tell, this seems to have nothing to do with the Disney company. It's a low budget (only $20 million), American-Canadian, computer-animated production. The companies involved are 3QU Media and Cinesite.

So, needless to say, this won't be treated as "official", unlike Cinderella (2015) and unfortunately Maleficent.

^Exactly. I didn't see anything with this having to do with Disney. So Disney's versions of Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty(Aurora), and their princes are safe. When it comes to this club, they'll probably be treated like the princesses from the Shrek movies, put in a couple of polls as to which one you like better, and that's about it.

I don't like the idea. If it's not really affiliated with Disney, then all the better!

Perhaps the articles I read are inaccurate then because they said it was a "Disney project".

Apparently done by the same people who worked on Frozen?

Also I read that Demi Lovato's character helps Charming on his quest to find his "true love". So I took it to mean she'd be more like a Merida-type character who is helping him find his own Prince Charming. (Plus I read that his true love was a Prince Charming.)

^ Uuuuuuggg...mmm. Not exactly thrilled. I mean, I don't mind the gay part of it, but stealing "someone's original prince" to do it...is where I draw the line.

Also, if the songs are being done by the Lopezes--- OH, BOY. I WILL TOTALLY AVOID. I HATE their movie music tunes.

@ laylastepford, I think we are dealing with two different movies. The first two of your links is talking about a live-action Disney movie. And the third link is wrong about it being Disney, because if you look at the caption of the Avril Lavigne, there is a link to the bottom of the post which takes you to this link
(link)

Which tells that is being made by 3QU Media. and here's another link.
(link)

So, the Disney movie is live action, while the one we are mainly talking about is animated. Weird that the first name of Prince Charming in the animated one is going to be Philip though.

^ Exactly. I was just about to point out the same thing. :)

Matt Fogel is writing Disney's live action movie, whereas Ross Venokur is penning Charming, a 3D animated movie. They're two separate movies.

Waaaaaait!!! Wilmer Valderrama is playing Prince Charming and Demi Lovato is playing his friend(??)?! Aren't Wilmer and Demi dating in real life? LOL! It's almost like the two went, "Hey! Let's tell our story in animation form!" XD

(also, not seeing why polygamy is a problem. :/ )

colorfulghost: Geez Louise, thank you for clearing that up. This was definitely getting confusing for me. I think the movie companies do that on purpose. I read "Disney's new Charming is going to be one star-powered fairy take! Avril Lavigne announced that she would be joining the cast of the animated musical comedy with fellow pop stars Demi Lovato and Ashley Tisdale." so that made me believe it was a Disney Project especially considering Demi Lovato and Ashley Tisdale are pretty much Disney-stars. The other 2 articles were from months ago and mentioned "revisionist take" so I'm sure you can see why I thought it was the same film, just earlier articles with less details. In addition, I have also been reading about a "Gay Prince Charming" story in the works from Disney so I thought they were all connected as it seemed to make sense with the casting and plot.

Angelica_AW: I don't see polygamy as a problem at all for consenting adults but I think it's a problem to take a story that has a monogamous ending that most of the predominant audience prefers and just do a switcheroo out of nowhere, seemingly for no reason other than to (in my opinion) devalue the original princess characters and belittle their romances.
