I think in general, MLP gets a much more praise than negativity. I'm not exactly sure how it's fans are treated, since I have little interest in MLP. I don't see much DP fan criticism either, to be honest, but it's a bit more common than MLP fan criticism (from what little I know and have seen). Pardon my ignorance.
The MLP fans don't get that much respect, at least when it comes to the male part of the fandom. A lot of people dislike Bronies and stereotype them as perverts who do nothing but getting off on ponies and only care about pony porn. Few fandoms get that much hate.
Bronies don't get respect and even get called creepy for liking a "little girls' show" but female Pony fans are left alone. It's seen as a good show for girls but apparently nobody can like the DPs over age 10 because you're childish, weird, a nerd, or something. and even then, some parents clutch their pearls over the idea of a little girl liking princesses. How horrible to want to be seen as beautiful and graceful and loved, right...?
and while I do love the Ponies, I HATE that they get so much praise for havign diverse, layered personalities but all the DPs but Mulan, Tiana, Poca, Merida and Belle (well sometimes even she gets flak) get insulted as flat, weak, stupid, or helpless characters.
I feel like the MLP fanbase, particularly bronies, are one of the most pushy and arrogant fans around. I notice they're very closed-minded to any criticism and think/behave in a really collective, group-think type of way. They put ponies in old WW2 photos (disrespectful to say the least), make pro-MLP propaganda aimed at spreading their fanbase, or make rude images aimed at those that don't share the same interest or opinions ("We will love and tolerate the crap out of you"). Not to mention, they spread sickening clop images where it's not welcome. There was a news story a few months ago where a brony was caught, um, doing it with a stuffed pony toy. I don't think other fanbases do stuff like that, or at least not to that extent. Disney princesses on the other hand, are graceful, elegant and classy, which the world could use more of IMO.
As someone who is forced to watch both on a regular basis and actually enjoys them, I'd just like to say that there is no shame in liking either. MLP is, for the most part, well-written, generally well-voiced and very... fluffy, perfect for little kids and the parents that have to watch it with them. The same goes for DP movies and Disney movies in general. I view them as on the same plain as far as cult followings and children's entertainment goes.
