All because of something small that they did both of these parents were completely cheated out of having what they wanted, a child. They missed everything in their daughter's lives; their first smile, their first laugh, their first word, their first step, their first birthday, being there to take care of their daughter when she was sick, comforting them when they have nightmares, their mothers fixing their hair and teaching them how to dress for their first ball, teaching them how to ride horses, how to read, how to write, etc.

I feel sorry for both parents but I'm going with Rapunzel's because we get to see their suffering. At least Aurora's parents knew their daughter was in good hands but Rapunzel's didn't know at all. For all they knew their daughter could be dead. Their reunions were heartfelt but I also feel bad because they were meeting total strangers.

At least Aurora's parents knew that their daughter was in good hands and that she was taken from them for protection.

I really feel horrible for both, but KL, manu, and coolsinger summed it up perfectly.

Both situations are tragic. Both missed out on being with their little girl for far too long.

I personally go with Aurora's parents because I feel there's something insidious about how they were separated from her. With Rapunzel's parents, at least you can blame an unknown stranger for being wicked enough to take their child. With Stephen and the Queen, they had to watch their daughter go to be raised by family friends who insisted it was for her own good.

I mean, think about it. You wish for years to have a child, you finally have the child you've wanted forever, an evil fairy curses her to death at her Christening over such a small slight (you didn't invite her because you were afraid she would do something exactly like that), then some good fairies soften the curse to sleep but still insist that she HAS to be raised under cover for the next 16 years, so you have to watch someone else steal away to raise your child. Then she's finally due to return 16 years later, but before she even arrives the father of her betrothed starts insisting that they get married and go away to their honeymoon suit to start making grandchildren immediately. To quote Stephen, "Now Hubert, be reasonable! I haven't even seen my daughter in 16 years, and already you're taking her away from me!"

I don't know... it would almost be easy to blame her absence on a wicked kidnapper, but the good fairies are their family friends. Rapunzel's parents also have to deal with the horrible uncertainty of whether their daughter was safe, happy, or even alive for 18 years, and my heart definitely goes out to them. Not knowing is the worst.

At the same time though... King Stephen and the Queen had their own uncertainty to worry about. They had no way of really knowing if Maleficent found and pricked her finger anyway, despite giving up spending time with her. The time-skip narration says that they constantly feared the curse might have come true, but only the angry thundering on Maleficent's mountain told them Aurora was still safe. I mean, imagine if the thundering ever paused or stopped. Each time they'd be left terrified if that mean Maleficent was finally successful. That what if they gave their daughter up to be raised by someone else and Malefient found her anyway? And they have no way of really knowing if she's safe, happy, or out of danger, because they can't see, visit, or contact her in any way. All they can do is hope and pray to run out the clock.

I'm honestly not trying to undermine the pain, grief, and uncertainty Rapunzel's parents went through for 18 years not knowing where their daughter was, if she was all right, if she was dead or alive, etc.

It's just... I personally think there's something so insidious about knowing your daughter is out there but you can't be with her because family friends you trust say she HAS to stay away from you to keep her safe, but you don't know if she's being raised right or kept out of danger because you can't watch over her yourself. You're robbed of spending time with her as well as kept in this horrible limbo of uncertainty if she's been found and cursed anyway, despite all you've given up, for 16 years.

They knew that their daughter could die from Maleficent's spell, while Rapunzel's parents had hope that she was still alive.

I think Rapunzel's parents got cheated more (EIGHTEEN years!) but Aurora's parents suffered for it more for what Tyger said.

This was hard. This was really hard.

Not only did Pun's had to wait longer, but they didn't know if she was being taken care of. At least with Aurora, she was being raised by people who were do anything for her, and her parents knew that. I don't know. I think Pun's parent suffered more.

Both are really sad, but like Swanpride said, Rapunzel's parents didn't know where Rapunzel was, if she was alive or dead

And seeing Rapunzel's dad crying is just so sad :(
