I personally feel like Aurora wasn't a heroine. She did nothing to move her story along, which is what I believe is the definition of a protagonist but whatever. I feel like she was more of a victim. People just automatically assume the person with the next biggest role will be the 'heroine' but I feel like you have to be a hero to be a heroine or do something at least mildly heroic. Aurora is about as heroic as Louis Lane.

It depends on your definition of heroine. If you mean it like protagonist, then all could be heroines, even Jasmine (Aladdin would be the hero, and she's the main female role). But if you consider heroine like stepping into action and saving the day, there are fewer: Mulan and Pocahontas would fill these requirements, and Aurora wouldn't, but what about the others? Is Cinderella's decision to go to the ball a stepping into action? Can she be considered like saving the day when she takes out the second glass slipper?
And if we stick to the heroic characteristics like in an epic song, none, not even Mulan, are heroines. According to this last definition, a hero is someone greater than the average man, he goes on a quest and undergoes several trials ad furthermore it is never considered a possibility that it can be a woman.

What popcorn said. The spring sprite in Fantasia 2000 hardly gets talked about, and Miriam in TPOE isn't the star at all, but I consider both heroines. They're protagonists with obvious personalities and to me that's a hero or heroine.

^ pretty much

a heroine is any woman who does heroic things - she can be the main protag, but she doesn't have to be.
