I'm pretty sure I am but let me explain first and I promise I'm not just hating. From what I've noticed pretty much every female character when they're compared to the Disney Princesses are usually ranked at the bottom. I mean Anastasia, Odette, Fiona, Kayley, Daria, Esmeralda, and Kida are just as beautiful as them but people usually say they look weird and point out problems they have that they seem not to care about with the Disney Princesses, hypocritical much. I'll admit that in the past I've kind of done that too and I try hard not to. Even Esmeralda, who's considered by many the most attractive animated character to ever come into existence gets this treatment too. I think if Aurora wasn't considered a Disney Princess, since her movie was a flop when it came out, in fact it was so bad that they didn't make another fairy-tale for thirty years, that should say a lot. I think that if she wasn't considered a Disney Princess they'd keep on picking at many details and say she looks weird and how the animation style looks ridiculous and so on. I mean Kida and a princess and her movie was a flop just like Aurora and she's not considered a Disney Princess and people don't like her that much and don't think of her as that pretty.

Plus there are a lot of well-developed and great characters who when compared to the Disney Princesses are usually in the bottom of the list. I mean Anastasia and Odette for example, Odette is considered whiny, doesn't do anything, and too dependent on her love interest, that pretty much describes the three classic Disney Princesses. However at least Odette has the spunk of the Renaissance princesses so you'd think she'd be considered the perfect middle ground but apparently not. Anastasia is also considered rude and a b*tch, you could say the same thing for Belle and Jasmine who are just as much as she is, though all three have valid reason. So why do people not care as much for them?

In my opinion people are pretty biased and hold the Disney Princesses on a high pedestal and other animated heroines to some double standard. If Aurora wasn't a Disney Princess I'm pretty sure hardly anyone would care much about her looks and consider her one of the most undeveloped, uninteresting, and forgettable characters Disney has ever created. I promise I'm not trying to hate, I'm just explaining my opinion so don't claim I'm just hating and be one of those annoying people who acts immature about this *coughs*BelleAnastasia*coughs*.

i kinda get what you mean and agree but dont think it really is the same with Aurora, almost no one likes her but little girls and they dont even know her name half the time. in fact the classics are less liked then Odette it seems.
i agree though that people put them all on a pedestal! Disney in general actually imo. disney is amazing but people adore it too much and dont judge non disney films the same way.

I think shes the most elegant disney princess, her figure is based on Audrey Hepburn. Plus once upon a dream is one of my fav disney songs! i love her, but i don't hear much about her from anyone else so maybe as a whole you're right

Same can be said about any of the DP's though. Each has their fan following largely because of the label, but without the label they'd end probably end up like Meg, or Kida, or any of the heroines: With a small cult following that truly loves them, but not much else.

I don't think her fans love her BECAUSE she's a princess, but I think her exposure helps her in the way of fans.

It really depends I guess. I would still love her because I grew up loving her, not because she's a Disney Princess. She's probably more popular because she's a Disney Princess so more people like her.

I do agree that she would not be as liked and mainstreamed (amongst everyone) if she was not a Disney Princess. I think she would be known, like Wendy, Alice, Esmeralda, etc. but she would not be as well-known of liked amongst others if she was not a Princess. About SB being flop, back in those days there was Re-releases, so they would have eventually made back its money and more (I think less than half of Walt Disney's films were flops, but they were all rereleased). If none of those films were rereleased, only SWaTSD, Dumbo, Cinderella, Peter Pan, LatT, 101 Dalmatians, and Jungle Book would be known. She does get a lot of hype and focus because she is a Disney Princess, and I highly doubt that would be the case otherwise. Just being honest

I think part of her popularity is due to the fact that she is a Disney Princess, but I really like her as a character. I know she is the classic damsel in distress that just waits to be saved, but I think that fits the movie perfectly. So she's not as proactive as other Disney and non-Disney movie characters, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I mean, her movie did came out in the late 50's, while most of the DP people consider to be much more "developed", to put it that way, came out in the 90's. I think it's normal that the way female characters were developed was very different.
I personally have never found her style, or the movie style, weird or unattractive. Her features are more "pointy" than some of the other princesses, but she was drawn like that in order to fit with the look of the film (which I think it's gorgeous). The animators themselves said in many interviews that they wanted the film to look like a moving tapestry. Maybe the film was not the big commercial success they were excpecting back in those days, but nowadays it is considered by many critics to be one of the most beautifully made animated films.
Pesonally, I have always adored Aurora (and her looks), way before the Disney Princess franchise was created, so at least in my case the fact that I love her doesn't have much to do with the fact that she is an official Disney Princess (that just adds to my love for her, and I can't imagine the DP lineup without her). I think she os goregous and not unmemorable at all.

Yeah, she is an unmemorable character in my opinion. And her beauty is pretty plain too, I mean she is indeed pretty but her beauty isn't unique like Jasmine's or Pocahontas's.

Well, I guess you are not really the only one, but I think you are wrong.
If anything her inclusion in the line-up ruins her more than anything else, it sucks all out of her what makes her great. Aurora is a very regal beauty in the movie, in the line-up, she is a pink Barbie (and yes, she looks weird in it, they never get her features right). A lot of her beauty is also based not just on the way she looks, but also on the way she moves.
I always considered her the most beautiful of all, long before the line-up was ever started. (and for the record, I think that Odette looks beautiful too, but she is only a copy of Aurora and lacks her regal stance - and her movie, while surprisingly good for such a small production has countless parallels to Sleeping Beauty)

@Alexon Concerning the commercial Success: Sleeping Beauty grossed as much as Cinderella did nine years earlier, when it rescued the animation studios. The difference was that Cinderella was made with the money the studios had left, while Sleeping Beauty took nine years to make and was way more expensive than what they eventually made. Just to put this a little bit in perspective.

People are so picky about her character and looks even though she's a DP already. I would still love her, but I can't say about others IDK what they'd do.

This whole sentence just shows how immature you are. I am stating my opinion, and if you can't deal with that fact that people have different opinions, well that's your problem. And unfortunately most of the time you are acting pretty hypocritical, because you say you're not biased, but really you are. Stop with the hate polls.

I probably wouldn't care AS much about any of them if there was no Disney Princess franchise. Like I loved Pocahontas when I was 6 when her movie came out but now I just see her as a nice memory. I would have seen the other princesses the same way.
