Mulan is very feminine but she did not like how women were treated in her culture. She went off to war to protect her father but she had to pretend to be a boy so she wouldn't be killed. In the end she did boy-ish things and many girl-ish things.

^Agreed. She liked her makeover, she liked traditions, she tried her best to be an obedient daughter, she didnt complain once about going to the matchmaker (she even seemed fairly confident about it till she got there). she was a klutz, but she was gentle and had some grace to her still.

^I agree with both of you. Who said she did it because she thought her true self was being a boy or acting less feminine? She just felt likes he couldn't be the perfect daughter and be what her family wanted her to be so she decided to do what she knew was right and that was trying to save her father. She dresses up as a boy, but that wasn't her intention to be a tomboy. Her intention was to save her father and find herself and in order to do that she had to disguise as a boy to not get killed. And when I say finding herself I don't mean finding her masculine side, I mean she wanted to find the hero inside of her. I hate when people say she is a Tomboy. Seriously, how is she a tomboy?

She is not a tomboy but she is a true man! Tomboy is different from a true man, tomboy is a girl who acts like a boy while a true man is anyone who is willing to sacrifice his/her life for someone, like a hero!

I wouldn't say she's very feminine (fixing her hair in her makeover seemed more a passive-aggressive action to me) but she's not a tomboy either, she is comfortable being feminine.

Personally I believe Mulan isn't either. She's not feminine, but she's not masculine. She's a pretty even balance between the two traits. She isn't interested in make-up or clothes very much, she isn't really into manly activities per see. She's herself.

She isn't exactly feminine like the classic DPs neither is she a tomboy. To me she's a bit of both. Maybe just a bit more tomboy-ish.

Mulan is neither a tomboy, nor especially girly. She just is. Because that's what her movie is about, being yourself, instead of following gender limitations. I think that Mulan likes to dress up for the right opportunity, but I also think that she normally wouldn't bother because she is comfortable with what she is.

She is more feminine than she is portrayed, but that does not mean she is a feminine person overall. She's not tomboy, but not a girly girl

I don't really think she hates femenine stuff, there's just more to her and she cares more about other things...
