This is the first of a set of reviews and analyses that I will be doing on each 迪士尼 Princess movie. I will try to be as unbiased and analytical as possible. I watch the movie so that it is fresh in my mind, and review 10 categories: the princess, the prince, the couple, the villain, other characters, the plot, animation, songs, score, and mood. I then give each category a score out of 10, then the movie as a whole receives a total score out of 100. All categories contribute equally to the final score.

Princess - Snow White

Snow White has been my least favourite princess for as long as I can remember, but it is time to wipe the slate clean. She is a very sweet, polite, kind and caring young girl; she cares for the well-being of others before herself. She is romantic and quite dreamy, especially at the beginning when she is cleaning. She is also quite motherly, both to the 动物 and the dwarves, and seems to like cooking. It also seems that she is religious. Through some of her actions, it is evident that she is shy and self-conscious. She is quite innocent, naïve and trustworthy, all of which are good in some situations, but can have devastating effects in others, as they make her vulnerable to threats such as her step-mother. She enjoys 音乐 and dancing, and has a soprano voice that can come across as too nasally. Overall, I give Snow White a score of 8.

Prince

When we first meet the Prince, he is a trespasser, but people seem to ignore that because of what follows. He is sweet and romantic, and has a smooth tenor voice. He looks boyish, but he is also quite strong, as he was able to lift three of the dwarves at once. The Prince, unfortunately, is not 给 much screentime, which brings down his character. Perhaps if he were allowed to develop more, he would achieve a higher score, but I have to give him a 6.

The Couple

These two met because the Prince trespassed. Other than that fact, their first meeting is quite sweet and romantic, with him 唱歌 to her. Unfortunately, the movie is not about the couple, so they are unable to develop their relationship. All in all, they are a cute couple, but as they don’t get much screentime together, I have to give them a 6.

The Villain – The Queen

The Evil 皇后乐队 is everything her name suggests; evil, for starters, as well as jealous, vengeful, and mad, just no name a few. She is also quite ruthless and dedicated to achieve her goal, to be the fairest in the land, 展示 that she is quite a vain person. The Queen’s vengeance is directly against Snow White, rather than through her to someone else. As the old hag, the 皇后乐队 is quite creepy. Her dramatic sweeping cape is, put simply, awesome, and her laugh is quite evil, as you’d expect. Her gruesome, unrealistic death however draws her down a little, so I have to give her a score of 8.

Other Characters

The huntsman, although a very minor character, is portrayed as caring and merciful when he doesn’t kill Snow White, even when knowing the consequences.
The forest animals, as they were probably intended, are quite cute, and they are extremely helpful to Snow, but they are also quite similar to children.
In general, all the dwarves act like children some of the time, especially when hiding their hands and refusing to wash up. This contrasts well with Doc always saying “come along, men”, as they are clearly not men all the time.
Dopey is idiotic, annoying, and is sometimes portrayed as being 更多 like a dog than a person.
Grumpy is suspicious and rude, yet he develops into a caring person, and he is the one to lead the charge back to the cottage.
Bashful is 更多 like a young girl than anyone, as he is embarrassed 由 almost anything, which can be annoying.
Doc can come across as annoying, especially when he constantly mixes up his words.
Sleepy, to be completely honest, looks stoned half the time, and Sneezy’s constant sneezing gets on my nerves 更多 than it makes me laugh.
Happy comes across as a jolly, cheerful kind of person, similar to how Santa is portrayed most of the time.
Overall, the secondary characters are childish and annoying, but there are some stand-outs, so they receive a score of 5.

The Plot
The movie’s plot tends to follow that of the classic fairytale somewhat, but there is also a definite “Disney” air about the movie. I felt as though the movie dragged on in the middle when Snow was living with the dwarves, but then it felt rushed from about the point that the 皇后乐队 turned into the old hag. This forces me to give the plot a score of 6.

Animation
Throughout the movie, there were some quite defined and clear shots, which looked absolutely stunning, but unfortunately, these seemed to be few and far between. The lines weren’t always defined, and often a character would kind of be blurred into the background. Although it may simply be my copy of the movie, the movements were often jerky. I noticed on 更多 than one occasion that mouth movement didn’t match what the characters were saying. However, this 动画片 was quite good for the movie’s time, so taking that into consideration, I give 动画片 a score of 5.

Songs
I’m Wishing – the inclusion of the echo from the well was quite clever, but the song seemed to be lacking something.
One Song – this song has a nice, steady beat, and quite romantic lyrics. I liked it.
One Song Reprise 1 – sweet, but unmemorable
With a Smile and a Song – a sweet, classical song, and quite cheerful, but also unmemorable.
Heigh Ho – this song has some nice harmonies, but it came across as 更多 of a chant than an actual song.
The Dwarves’ Wash Song – I didn’t even realise this was a song until 阅读 it on Wikipedia! It seemed like it was Doc talking in time with music, rather than actually singing.
The Silly Song – quite a cheerful and happy song, with clever 音乐 and strong harmonies.
Someday My Prince Will Come – this song is definitely for a soprano to sing. It is quite romantic, but can also be unmemorable at times.
SMPWC reprise 1 – short and unmemorable.
One Song reprise 2 – nice harmonies, but unmemorable.
SMPWC reprise 2 – strong choral harmonies in the background, but also unmemorable.
These songs are generally unmemorable, with a few stand-outs, earning Songs a score of 5.

Score
I really liked this score. It was orchestral and classical, suiting the movie. It had the right sort of 音乐 at the right time; the drum rolls and trumpets as the tension rose, and the sweeping violins in the calmer, peaceful parts of the movie. There’s a large range of instruments, with deep drums, trumpets, violins playing both pizzicato and long bowing, and the organ at Snow’s vigil. This score really contributed to the mood and emotions of the audience, earning it a score of 9.

Mood
This film was definitely aimed at children, rather than the whole family. There were a range of different moods throughout the movie, including romantic, sweet and gloomy. However, overall, this movie was quite sweet, and this earns it a score of 7.

Overall, this movie has earned a total score of 65 out of 100.
