First of all,Elena had to be looking for Stefan all summer.He is her boyfriend,she knows she loves him and it would be illogical to just stop caring and looking for him...Then,when she found him and saw what he had done and who he had become,would we want for her to abandon him?No,because that would not be like her.She never gives up on the people she loves,she is faithfull.Isn't that one of the things we 爱情 about her?What would it say for her character if she gave up on the guy she supposedly adores when he most needed her and went straight for his brother?So until now Elena is 表演 like well,Elena,trying to save the guy she cares about(although it bores us to death)and nobody can accuse her in the future for not being there.
Let's 移动 on to Damon.Other ships are already hating him for numerous reasons(I do not agree with anyone of them,but they exist).What would be 说 if now that his brother,who went with Klaus to save him,and needs him very much, he just ignored him and went straight for his girlfriend?It would not be good...Everybody would say that he does not respect him,care for him,blah,blah,blah...We would not hear the end of it...
Also,if Elena went for Damon now,she would not have made a CHOICE.Damon would just be the 下一个 best thing,the Stefan rebound guy.Because she could not have him she "settled" for Damon and the 分钟 Stefan came back to normal,she would start begging for forgiveness,leaving Damon heartbroken again,because for one 更多 time his brother wins and he gets nothing in the end.
If they happened now it would not be fair to all the amazing build-up we are getting for two seasons.We have the best build-up in the whole series and I do not think that anybody can deny that!!They both have evolved throught each other,discovered things about themselves and now Elena is slowly starting to getting in the place where Damon has been for a long,long time and she is realising that she does not she him as a mere friend but he is much,much more(for me that is one of the reasons she wants Stefan so desperately back...She is afraid of her feelings and he is "safe",her shield.)
So,in order to make justice for Damon and Elena both we must want for Stefan to be his old,boring self again,before we have our DE.Then Elena will make a CHOICE unbiased and "ripper-free".Then she will choose Damon,not SETTLE for him.He will be her first choice,and it's about time he is somebody's first choice!!And Damon would not be accused of backstabbing his brother when he is the most vulnerable...It would be an equal and mutual choice and I don't think that anyone of us wants something less...
So DE fans,let's enjoy the wonderfull ride we are into a ride that nobody else in the 显示 gets...

Elena’s doctor was driving on the road. There was not many traffic, so she’d be at work fast. Then she’d have some time to do some paperwork.
The radio was playing lame music, so she looked for a CD. While she put Switchfoot in the CD-player, she had her eyes off the road for two seconds. When she looked up again she screamed.
There was a woman standing in the middle of the road. She had long, dark blonde hair, green eyes and she looked rather pale.
The doctor braked and her car made a few turns before it stood still. Before she got out she needed to get her 心 beat under control.
Her door opened and a familiar man appeared.
“Are 你 all right?” Alaric asked concerned.
The doctor nodded heavy, breathing fast.
“What happened?” Alaric asked.
She looked at Alaric, thinking he’d think she’s crazy.
“I thought I saw a ghost” she 说 quickly as if it wouldn’t sound so insane if she 说 it fast.
