Does anyone know how to make good DE pics with GIMP?

I really want to make some DE pics but I don't know how it works, I have never done something like that before. I have no idea how to put several pictures together 或者 to make one picture 更多 transparent than the other and then put them together.. I'm kinda VERY helpless :/ I would be very happy if someone could help me ♥
