yeah she pretends to be sooo self-righteous but she's involved in illegal activity of her own. she's been helping to cover up Ted's fraud basically since she started working there again. i mean if she left him just cuz he made some meth during a bad time in his life then she's a real bitch. however, if she knew about all the people he'd killed then i could see that as a real reason to want him to stay away. i swear, she's so high and mighty about the drugs simply because her brother-in-law is DEA and doesn't want to look bad in front of him and her sister.

EDIT: i just remembered the specific reason she left him was because she thought he was dealing pot. i mean that is an even WORSE reason to end a 17 year relationship especially considering he was just doing it to help her out.

I do find myself extremely annoyed with her at times, and she does bitchy things (the end of I.F.T. made me want to punch her), but I don't despise her. Walt does many things that also shouldn't be done in a healthy relationship, and he lies to her more than she does to him. She has the right to be depressed and angry, because her whole previously calm lifestyle is falling apart, and she doesn't want her or her husband or her children to die.

Skylar is extremely smart, the stuff she pulled off in season 4 was amazing! (I wasn't too keen on her character in season 1 but as the show went on I started liking her character more). She was lied to by Walt, and he FORCED her to be put in a situation she wanted no part of, not to mention how he put HER and their family in danger. Skylar's the one who's out to protect their family in season 4, she's FORCED to practice illegal activities in order for her family to be kept safe while for most of the time Walt only concerns himself with protecting his ego (i.e. Telling Hank that he "might not have the right guy") which could have ruined everything! She has a RIGHT to be angry or depressed, she didn't want anything to do with this. She wanted a healthy husband and a happy family, and you guys are calling her out because she's upset for being brought into a dangerous drug environment? Seriously?! She never wanted the money that Walter provided, so stop acting like she asked for it. WALTER could have swallowed his pride and rather allowed family friends to pay for it (which they would have) or allowed for Walt Jr. to raise money for him (which could have raised quite a bit), but no he had to be arrogant and get the money himself, he had to endanger his entire family and force his wife into illegal activities to protect his ego.
Skylar had a RIGHT to sleep with Ted. She was being forced to stay in a relationship she wanted no part in. Walter was a horrible person for forcing himself on her, it was borderline abusive and you could see how upset she was. I cheered when she told Walter she fucked Ted, good on her! She won't be some submissive housewife that does as she's told!

Honestly, I find her realistic. I mean, imagine being in her place and having your spouse involved in the kinds of things that Walter got involved in. Wouldn't you be hurt by all the lies and his sudden strange behavior, all the time he slipped off by himself with no explanation? She comes off as something of an antagonist because Walt is constantly having to tiptoe around her and deal with problems involving her, but I don't think this reflects her personality as much as it's just a plot device. Most people would act the same way that she did, at least if they loved their spouse/family as much as she does and were as intelligent and perceptive as her.

Lets also add the fact that Skyler questions Ted as to why he is doing illegal fraud and about if the kids found out he answered you do what you can for the family to survive you dont think that far ahead. She would not give him a chance. She forgave her sister just like that! Whats worse is you can see Walt is so desperate he needs support so she comes home as Walt is being so nice to her and she says right in his face in the most vindictive and spitefull way to a husband and father of 17 years "I fucked Ted" all smug like it was her right and Walt go fuck your self I dont care you were doing anything you could with what skills you have to stop the family from going under and cover all the medical bills. I could understand if she broke down crying and said what have you done promise me you will never do that again. She isnt even a morally good character anyhow. When I first watched the show, I didn't like her at all. Now that I'm rewatching the show I'm beginning to understand her behavior and actions and I must say that she's perfectly in line most of the time. Skylar does a lot of drastic things to protect her family (as Walt once had) but Walt's intentions took a darker turn and now he only has ego in mind. He became a straight up sociopath who only cares for himself and it's surprising to me that there are people who still have sympathy for Walt. He's cold blooded, manipulative, and maniacal whereas Skylar never was, or will be. She's the human half of the relationship.

Even in the start of the show he always lying to her and never telling the truth. Not really an ideal partner. And one more thing, there's only so far that the cancer excuse can really take you. What about Hugo the Janitor? You think he appreciates being sold down the river so that Walt can cook more meth. Walt is a completely self serving scumbag with almost no regard for others, even at the start of the show.

Early on I found her a pretty frustrating character. If there's one thing I can't stand it's a nosy bitch. Ever notice how despite everything Walt isn't nosy in her business. He also loves her dearly. They've been married for sixteen years so obviously there was once something there. They say it was Walt's transition into a criminal that drove her away but from the very beginning I could see she was already losing her feelings for Walt. She still cared about him but not in a romantic way.
Every time he treated Walt crossly I would feel frustrated because I was seeing things through his eyes but I would always try to rationalize. I tried to understand her, feel sorry for her, take her side... but then she turns around and pisses me off. She smoked cigarettes while pregnant just because of an argument with Walt. Even after the baby was born she smoked while still in the same room as the baby just because she was too stubborn to leave Walt with the baby. It is already annoying since I hate seeing people smoke in the first place. Then there's her affair with Ted, a guy that sexually harassed her years ago. Yes, he was sorry and she forgave him because they are old friends but still. Everytime Ted came into a scene I felt like their "attraction" was being forced down our throats. He was blatantly flirting with her and she did it right back. When she discovers he's breaking the law to make money she claims that she will not be a part of it and leaves... which actually made me respect her... until the next day where she returns to work and continues to cover up for Ted and flirt. To add on to her shallowness, she chews Walt up for breaking the law to make money even though she knows well enough that he was doing it to provide for her and the kids, which was the exact same reason Ted was breaking the law as well. Walt BEGS her to forgive him. He never begs for anything but she still walks all over him.
But all that I can forgive. I could forgive all that if she would just turn Walt and Ted in to the authorities. Because at least then she's just an annoying character that still stood by what she thinks is right. Both Walt and Ted are not good influences on her and yet she just can't bring herself to turn them in despite scolding them on their behavior. But of course that might be understandable since she "loves" them but wait no that's not it.... She covers up for Ted because she desperately wanted to sleep with him as well as there's the fact that he's her boss. Selfish. She covers up for Walt because she thinks Walter will end up dead soon anyway. Heartless and selfish.

To the last poster, did you conveniently ignore the fact that Skyler explicitly stated her reasons for keeping Walt's meth trade a secret was to ensure that their kids wouldn't have that stigma of having a criminal for a dad?

Frankly, her behavior makes me question the whole institution of marriage.

Walt doesn't 'break bad' for fun. He doesn't like what he does (at least at first). He does it for his wife and kids. It must shatter the poor guy to see the wife react like that. To see her accuse him of being bad for the kids. It's outrageous.

Well... I'm not gonna read everyone elses comments (not now anyway) but I thought she was a bitch for most of the show... and still kinda do, but she had reason to be upset, just as Jesse did. I feel like she was worse, though.

I think a lot of people were bad in this show... and everyone just found it annoying that she was in the way of Walt and Jesse's meth making. While that is kind of true, there's not really a reason to hate her... even though she cheated on her husband and gave away some of the money to Ted.

Walt and Jesse are murderers and whatnot, so they're actually worse y'know. Skyler seemed kind of snide and controlling from the beginning, though, before Walt started making drugs. Not worth hating, but definitely annoying.

I agree almost word for word with some of the above comments! Skylar was sooo Unlikable! I really wish she had been Likable, it would have made it more conflicting, but Skylar was such a Self Righteous Hypocritical Smug Controlling Bitch that I often would side with Walt! Seeing how Walt was a Murdering Criminal that says a lot about Skylar's Horrible Personality, that he was the more Sympathetic of the two! I am not sure if it was the Writing or Anna Gunn's acting but I never liked Skylar although I did sympathize with her and thought she was Interesting at times!

I (sort of) liked her in the first season and she was okay in the second, I hated that she thought she was such a great person when she smoked while pregnant, and after the baby was born she smoked in the same room as her. Okay first off, Walt was right about not taking chemotherapy for his cancer because as a teacher he knows that he cannot survive and even if he did, it would be putting a massive burden on his family. Also, he was already living a shallow life of shame and ridicule from his students and his former colleagues (Gretchen and Elliot). But Skylar yells at him to do it anyways, without any valid reason. Fair enough. Then when Walt finally accepts her wishes, she goes behind his back and asks Gretchen and Elliot to pay. Everybody thinks that this is just about pride and ego when it is so much more. It's about principle. These people stole Walt's entire life and career and are only giving him pity money just because he's dying. And Skyler is just watching him get humiliated and bitches at him for not kissing their feet. Then when Walt starts drifting away and lying to her, she only has about an ounce of patience until she starts getting nosy and prying into his business. Yeah he's being a little weird, but he's a dying man! Let him do what he wants instead of being a controlling bitch! Skylar is always thinking about what SHE wants and what SHE thinks is best like she's the only person in this world. Then she finds out that he's "smoking pot" and leaves him! Then she wants a divorce from him. What are her reasons for divorce so far: husband lying (not cheating), being distant, and doing pot. Fair enough. Then Walt tries to talk her out of the divorce because he quit cooking and wants to be back in the family she still keeps on trying to throw him out of his own house until he finally gets frustrated of being a pushover (yes that is one thing I hated about Walt) and moves back in just in spite of her. When Walt quits Gus's business and tells Skylar that he gave up all that and wants to give all the money to her and the family, he really wanted to turn over a new leaf. (Oh and btw, for anyone saying "Skylar told good reasons to the divorce lawyer for not telling anyone about Walt's drugs", remember that she didn't wanna tell anyone because it would look bad on her and Walter Jr. And she wanted to wait for Walt to DIE) Then she slept with Ted (who she had been emotionally cheating with beforehand and already doing illegal activities with him despite VEHEMENTLY judgind Walt for his illegal actions) and tells it to Walt's face just to "win". And THAT is when the criminal Walt was born. Everything afterwards is solely her fault because she created that monster. Walt wanted to go back to being a husband and a father and she completely tore that down and turned him into a psychopath. And he had all the right to. People judge Walt based on what he did as a criminal when that had nothing to do with Skylar directly. Skylar didn't know anything he was doing and he really did nothing to hinder their marriage except lie to her for a brief period of time.
