. The show, created by Michael Jacobs (who had previously co-created the TGIF sitcom

), focused on Cory Matthews (Ben Savage), a 6th-grader navigating his way through the changes in his family and school life. Over the course of its seven-year run we watched as the love between Cory and his girlfriend, Topanga, grew. Saw his best friend, Shawn, get thrown into increasingly heartbreaking situations, and his brother, Eric, grow crazier with each episode. And throughout it all, Mr. Feeny was by their side as a mentor and guide.

has garnered a post-TGIF legacy and a following that’s been an unexpected surprise for the show’s cast and writers. But thanks to its syndication on the Disney channel and the nostalgia of the internet, the love for

is stronger than ever. The outpouring of this fandom became increasingly apparent with the 2013 release of

, where the show’s characters live on through the worldview of Cory and Topanga’s daughter, Riley.

We spoke with Jacobs, actors Will Friedle (Eric), Rider Strong (Shawn), William Daniels (Mr. Feeny), William Russ (Alan), Anthony Tyler Quinn (Mr. Turner), Matthew Lawrence (Jack) and Maitland Ward (Rachel), and writers Jeff Sherman and Jeff Menell about the creation of

, its many phases and mysteries, and how the lives of these beloved characters continue on.

"‘Dream, Try, Do Good’: The Oral History Of ‘Boy Meets World’"

Surprised that no one has commented on this yet (Start let’s start this discussion off right). This was a great trip down Memory Lane for what was by a good margin the best TGIF show from the 90s from ABC and the one who’s impact was most resonant given how much the show predated the tenor of sitcoms in early 2000 and still had elements from Comedy Shows of the late 2000s into 2010s.

There was also a oral history for the best episode in the show’s history, which was that Halloween episode which oddly aired in February of 97 I think which even the cast who did the oral history discussed as well. Surprised that Savage and Fisher were not available for this but alas.

Also, BMW is interesting in how the show basically has it’s eras.

Era 1: Season 1-2 where the cast is trying to find it’s footing and sense of what the show can be. These seasons are almost like test runs (Season 1 more than 2) for what the show could ultimately be

Era 2: Season 3 and parts of 4 where as Friedle mentioned, the cast and crew knew they had some lewy and starting to expand more on characters as they continued to come to age. This is where general interest would start to build a more serious following

Era 3: Latter half of Season 4 through Season 5 which were their prime years in that everything came together so seemlessly that they could add one of characters (Like Angela) and still create something substantive out of it. There are operating at such a sublime level that you almost wonder if they could somehow strech out the High School setting just to have everything opearting at this level.

Era 4: Season 6 and 7 which were basically the extended epilogue for the show. Looking back on the season 5 finale, it almost operates like the Scrubs finale for season 8 where the show would no longer be the same as the concept started to get a little more tricky to pull off given the implications of tracking teenage to adult development on a tv network show back then. The cast and crew also finally started to show some fatigue with the characters given how far they were able to push the concept and while some appeared happy to continue in the role (and everything it provided) others you could were ready for the next step after the show’s conclusion.

Long winded but when I seee an oral history for one of my formative shows growing up (I have probably seen each BMW at least 3-5 times), then I will expound a bit when this is available.

Also, kudos for the solid sequel series that is Girl Meets World and seeing the show come into’s in own….
