hell, don't let anyone dictate what u should like! You should be proud of ur individuality. I mean ok, they may not know about it but maybe u have er a real gem on ur hands. Then u'll be the one doing the talking! :)

Then tell them so! I mean I know some ppl who hate P&P for goddsakes! I do debate with them & stuff but they know what they're talking about. The key is to know exactly why you hate the book, having constructive arguments always help. Talk about er the plot n say why u hate it and stuff e.g. predictable ending and ur a more cliffhanger person. Stuff like that. Mainstream/commercial books maybe loved by the masses (alot of them pretty mindless) so u have to be pretty, oh I dnt know...creativeor convincing not to mention stubborn when sticking to ur own preferences.

Twilight is seriously not worth the effort, in my opinion.

If it's a good book, it's the first on my list no matter what :)

then i might read the popular book after to see what all fuss was about.

I liked twilight (1st book only) BEFORE it was popular , most of the books I've read didn't have fan websites and weren't popular (at least at the time I read them) read it because it looked good
although if i'm looking for something to read, I do check out popular books to see what is it like and why it is popular but only read it if it sounds interesting to me

after i finish my book, i'll read the popular book. if i like it - good; if i dont - i'll know what i am talking about when i say it is crap

I'm the kind of person who reads PG Wodehouse while everyone else is poring over vampire romance novels. So yeah, you can safely say I don't exactly follow the crowd!!
