Broken Hollow Masks?

As of right now, I'm on episode 244 of the 日本动漫 and chapter 331 of the manga. And in that time, I noticed a glaring inconsistency concerning Hollow masks.
So far, I'm not entirely sure how the Hokyoku works, but I assume it does break a Hollow's mask, to a certain degree. That explains why ll the Arrancars have mask fragments.
BUT, earlier in the series (episode 3 或者 so), Ichigo fought a Hollowified Sora. In the process, he chipped off part of the mask, revealing Sora's face. Later, after Orihime stops him rom going after Ichigo, Sora's mask is completely destroyed. Does this make Sora the first Arrancar? 或者 is there something deeper involved?

Sora was never an Arrancar, just because his mask was broken it doesn't mean he was an Arrancar. Sora was just a regular Hollow, even after his mask broke.

DarkJules said:
It does and Arrancar is a hollow who has broken the barrier between Hollow & Shinigami, and what the Hokyoku does is exactly that it breaks the barrier between the two sides.

So far from whats been 说 in the 日本漫画 the Stark the Primera Espada has been the only Arrancar shown to have reached Arrancar state without the Hokyouko. I'm am positive there have been other Arrancars before him but so far he's the only one that Kubo has shown.

From what I've understood Arrancars usually is a state that a Hollow reaches after it has evolved in a Vasto Lord (the 3rd and final Menos lv.), it probably takes years to achieve this level decades possibly centuries but nothing else is really known.

So, from what I've found out since (getting ready to watch 320), Sora was the first Arrancar shown, but he doesn't really count since he was taken care of so quickly
