The 阿凡达 is a powerful being who has been

reincarnated over many lifetimes. It is the

Avatar's duty to master all four elements, and to

use that power to keep balance amongst the four

nations. The Avatars follow a cycle, so when an

阿凡达 dies the spirit is reborn the 下一个 nation

in the cycle: It goes Water, Earth, Fire, and

Air. There can only be one 阿凡达 at a time. The

阿凡达 also possesses the ability to meditate

into the Spirit World. They are also able to

contact the spirits of 前一个 Avatars through

meditation and gain wisdom from them. The 阿凡达

can also enter what is called "the 阿凡达 State."

In the 阿凡达 State, the 阿凡达 is at their most

powerful, but also their most vulnerable. The

阿凡达 State is signified 由 a glowing of the

eyes (and in Aang's case, glowing 《绿箭侠》 tattoos).

When in the 阿凡达 State, an Avatar's bending

strengh is heightened and he 或者 she can perform

very powerful moves. But if an 阿凡达 is killed

while in the 阿凡达 State, the 阿凡达 cycle is

broken, and the 阿凡达 ceases to exist.
