Hi everyone.... a know a couple of people wanted to know who made this spot, it was me! I was an extra in the movie, and felt quite close to it, so I thought I'd share some of my experiences of filming... There is loads to talk about, and I have many 照片 from the Dunkirk set, so I'll probably do this in parts.
Okay, so my first 日 was getting fitted up for the costume, a standard WW2 infantry outfit. It was very bulky, and slightly woollen, but despite that it was quite comfortable (a welcome break from playing fisherman on my other turns as an extra... there's only so much rubber a man can take!). I had braces on, which I loved to play with, and a couple of water bottles strapped to me, along with a raincoat pouch. It felt really good to wear.
But with all that comfort, something had to be wrong, and that came from the shoes... they were truly something out of the middle ages. Firstly they were too small 由 at least 1 whole size (I am very difficult with my size 12's), and there was some kind of hard strip inside, which cut into my foot with every step I took... but I didn't complain at all, 或者 let on because I would have been sent 首页 like other extras did for being too fat etc I didn't want to miss out, so I took the pain.
I was really pleased with how I looked, and I noticed some stripes on my jacket... I was some kind of lieutenant 或者 corporal! 'How cool!' I thought... but it was not to be. My 老友记 had been kitted out in full length jackets, and looked very dapper, they were Officers. Compared to them I was mere dirt.
下一个 up was the hair cut.... at this point I shall admit that I have only ever been to the hairdresser's once, so when he pulled out the shaver I was surprised to be thinking "Oh cool... he's gonna shave all my hair off!" He didn't. It was just a very short back and sides job... 40's style. Nice.
So that was the end of the fitting... coming back to do the filming, the shoes proved to be every bit a nightmare as they first seemed. My feet bled, and I had a pretty bad in-growing toenail at the time which just made things worse, but I thought it cool to suffer in ways that soldiers might have done back in the war, so in a way I felt lucky for my crap shoes.
