I would say Death Note but CLANNAD, Code Geass, AMNESIA, Chobits. Attack on Titan, & Shugo Chara! are all series that I would recommend.

Don't even bother with Baka to Text, Attack of Titan, or Free.

Death Note is the anime i strongly recommend for you to watch.

I would also recommend Clannad, Baka to Test, Inuyasha, Lucky Star, Ookami to Koushinryou and Shugo Chara.

I don't think you should watch Amnesia. I watched it and I think it's kinda boring... Death Note is awsum and I like Free! too. :)

Free! You'll really love it. It has a lot of meaning into it.

@Pumpkin You haven't watched it to the end then. I promise,near the end and even in the middle it shows a lot of promise. I mean you can actually see the developments between the main characters. It is basically about the rivalry between a group of boys. I mean as you get past the 6th episode you see more of the development of the plot. What's wrong if it has fan service that is directed to girls in it? A lot of anime that has fan service in it is directed to boys. So,I feel like this makes things a bit fair.

Attack on Titan for sure! I really enjoy it. You also get an advantage as it's nearing its end for what is (hopefully) only one of many seasons! Also I recommend Death Note; it's one of those anime that I'm pretty sure will always remain relevant and amazing no matter how old the series gets.

Definitely Code Geass and possibly Black Cat and Inuyasha.

@pumpkin Not really. I'm asexual. I don't watch shows just to see hot guys. The show's plot is good enough to keep me watching. I can't speak for everyone, but I personally watch the show because I was on a swim team at one point so I enjoy watching an anime about a swim club. So no, by all means it's not just an eye-candy show.

Anyhow Sailor Moon, Attack on Titan, Baka and Test, Clannad, and Deadman Wonderland are great too. I personally don't care for Code Geass, but that's just me.
