The story follows Ikki and his 老友记 and the use of Air Treks, an in-universe invention derived from inline skates. Initial sections of the plot carries out the introduction of characters that eventually 加入 Ikki. As the story progresses, it focuses on their roles as Storm Riders and their quest to be on the 最佳, 返回页首 of the Trophaeum Tower.
It may be a stretch to call it a sports anime, but Angelic Layer has all the trappings of one. Students compete in a fighting tournament with "dolls" that they created and are able to control with their minds. Its a nice 显示 with action where nobody really gets hurt.
