I was never forced to dissect at school, my teachers were very reasonable. I didn't have to cut class and my grade wasn't lowered.

Come to think of it, we never had to dissect any frogs in school! I thought that was just something you do if you study a biology or medical subject when you get to university. A couple of times my teacher dissected a couple of things while the class watched (I think they were various parts from a pig - but I didn't watch anyway!) and there was one lesson where the students dissected a pig kidney, but I didn't do that either. Maybe dissection just isn't as a big a deal in the UK as it is in some other parts of the world?

If so, maybe it'll catch on in other countries. I don't think school kids really need to know that much about frogs to be honest. If dissection is still absolutely necessary for higher education students then leave it to them, and let the school students just look it up on the internet or do a virtual dissection.

Um, I didn't like doing it but it doesn't bother me. We were NEVER forced to do it.

I was never forced to do so, and I only participated when I was assured by trustworthy and compassionate teachers that the animals had been collected for the purpose only after dying natural deaths. I understand the educational value in that case, and that is obviously the only way it ought to be done, because killing any creature so that students can cut it apart is just a sickening idea.

I don't cut frogs at my school.... we cut fetal pigs. Baby pigs that were never born. Its sad, but I want to be a scientist, so I could protect animals. This is the first steep, understanding them.

I was actually sick the day my class dissected frogs, so all I had to do was memorize the parts inside - I never had to cut it open manually. Thank goodness.

I study some zoology subjects at uni, so I kind of have to, although they have an animal ethics committee set up to approve of their use in teaching. Usually we get mice that had to be euthanased after some medical research, or fish from the market, so they try to reduce the numbers that have to be killed.
And admittedly, I love dissecting. I just don't like that an animal had to die for it to happen.

If we aren't the ones killing them, I can learn to stomach it. I feel awful, but I try to respect it as much as the class allowed. It's actually rather interesting, and helps you learn a little bit more about them. I just hate when we throw them away when we're done, living things shouldn't be tossed like trash.

Coming from a person who adores frogs.

We never dissected frogs either. We dissected fetal pigs and euthanized cats.

I actually dont mind looking through dead animals, sounds weird, but i love learning about them. And it may help them in the future to learn all we can about them. the only problem i have is killing them to do it.
